If you’ve been reading Already Heard for a while, then Weatherstate will be far from strangers. The Weymouth punks are celebrating 10 years together. In March they shared a cover of Green Day‘s ‘Burnout’ and more recently shared a new track – ‘Hellbent’. It’s the quartet’s first (original) new piece of music in two years, and it’s also today’s ‘Song of the Day’.
‘Hellbent’ thrives on Weatherstate‘s sharp, distortion-heavy brand of punk. It excels in its soaring chorus and overall bouncing rhythm, ultimately reminding us of the band’s melodic flair. Yet underneath the fuzz-laden power chords, ‘Hellbent’ introspectively hones in on the good and bad times the band have gone through over the past decade.
“‘Hellbent’ is a reflection on everything we have been through as a band – feeling jaded from the ups and downs, and dealing with the noise from people that might not have your best interests at heart,” vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins says. “As you get older you sometimes question why you are even doing this in the first place, and ultimately realise none of the bullshit matters. So I guess this song is a reminder to only put energy into things that actually add value to your life, and to do things the way you want.”
