#NewMusicFriday (October 27th 2023)

Another week, another #NewMusicFriday. Another week with a whole bunch of notable releases. Yet the choice can be overwhelming, can’t it?

On a personal note, it’s release weeks like this that I consider the purpose of running this site. Since launching in May, it’s been a one-man operation. I do this as a hobby. Not to make money. Just to write about music that I like, and want to give my opinion on. In some ways, I’ve been spoilt for choice. And while I’ve written about new releases from Taking Back SundayThe Gaslight Anthem, and Lake Malice, there are others I’ve just not had the time to truly dive into.

For example, Crime In Stereo‘s first album in 13 years, ‘House & Trance’, was one of them. With its socio-politically charged lyricism, it’s not a record that doesn’t deserve to be summed up in a couple of listens. Another release I could’ve written about is Magnolia Park‘s ‘Halloween Mixtape II’. The Florida group are constantly creating music, pushing their sound beyond their pop-punk base. It sounds like this trend will continue on this latest release.

You can also add the return of END and ‘The Sin of Human Frailty’ to that list. It’s an almighty menacing dose of metallic hardcore with hints of industry and black metal thrown in for good measure. Whereas Year of the Knife‘s ‘No Love Lost’ is equally vicious.

In terms of today’s other releases, Poppy delivers her fifth album, ‘Zig’, and sees her exploring a number of styles. There’s also ‘Venom’,  the debut album from Wargasm (UK). The much-hyped duo create an anarchic electro-punk yet it’s something I don’t quite “get”.

For your metalcore needs, Of Virtue delivers ‘Omen’, and Hollow Front brings a cathartic, crushing, and cohesive vision with ‘The Fear of Letting Go’. Elsewhere, Closure In Moscow returns with a funk-laden set of prog-pop in the form of ‘Soft Hell’. Nu-Punk artist BEX looks to leave her mark with debut EP, ‘SCUM’. Whereas Canada’s NOBRO deliver an energetic first album in ‘Set Your Pussy Free’.

Finally, today’s other noteworthy releases come from rising UK pop-punks Gold Bloom and rousing punk rockers Dollar Signs. And if you want to get into the Christmas spirit early, Mark Tremonti has done just that.
