In October 2021, the instrumental group Talons bowed out with two final shows in London and Leeds. They were a culmination of a 13-year career that included four albums. While their farewell was initially planned for 2020, including a final appearance at the ArcTanGent Festival, those plans were curtailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fast-forward to October 2021, and with Covid restrictions loosening, Talons came together for two farewell shows to collectively celebrate their history.
Today, the sextet have released ‘Commemoration’, a live film documenting the London half of their farewell. Recorded at Bush Hall venue in Shepherds Bush, West London, the set captures Talons’ compelling sound that incorporates towering riffs and atmospheric soundscapes. The film is interspersed with candid footage from the band’s time together touring, showcasing their camaraderie and friendship.
The film was edited and colour graded by Talons bassist Chris Hicks, shot by Ben Riou-Pollard and Luigi Sibona and mixed by Jamie Lockhart of Greenmount Studios. It also includes artwork from guitarist Oliver Steels.
Several months after Talons final shows, violinist Sam Little sadly passed away in March 2022. The loss of Sam has been understandably devastating for Talons, and they have dedicated this film to his memory.
Talons are asking fans to donate to Aortic Dissection Trust.
As the British Heart Foundation explains, Aortic dissection is when the weakened wall of the aorta tears, causing blood to leak between the layers that make up the walls of your arteries. This can happen suddenly or slowly over time.
