UK metal label Church Road Records (Hidden Mothers, Timelost, Giant Walker) have welcomed folk horror quintet Forlorn.
To mark the news, they’ve dropped a new single titled ‘Spirit’. Inspired by the work of Stephen King, ‘Spirit’ showcases Forlorn‘s mix of crushing and ethereal metal, leading to an impressionable number that highlights their potential.
Commenting on the track, Forlorn vocalist Megan Jenkins said, “Feeling a connection between a bass synth in the instrumental of the song and the literal transformation one being makes into another, I took inspiration from the Stephen King novel ‘The Outsider’ and the concept of shape-shifting. There is so much that we cannot see and don’t connect to when we are caught up in the haze of our daily lives. There are forces, energies and beings that are all around us that we are blind to, and many people are OK with that. I connect so deeply to this idea of shape-shifting or “becoming other” through a desire to explore the unseen and travel beyond the confines of this human skin.”
Since coming together in 2019, Forlorn has been carving out their self-styled brand of “folk horror”, blending expressionist art, crushing soundscapes and paganism. In recent years, they’ve made appearances at Radar Festival, Tech Fest and Collision Festival, while also supporting the likes of Dying Wish and North Atlas. Along the way, they’ve picked praise from numerous radio and press outlets.
Reflecting on joining Church Road Records, Jenkins shared, “We are elated to join the roster of Church Road. An incredibly forward-thinking and ethically-minded record label, it is and has been the home of many artists we deeply admire. We welcome them into our inner circle and now look to our future with them and the horrors to come.”
